Aditya Roy Kapoor- Meet the new Lucknowi Nawab

There was a time when Aditya Roy Kapoor, was panned by the critics and janta alike. Some people thought he should have stuck to VJing, some critics even said that his afro did the acting for him.

And to be honest, his start with the film industry was rather lackluster. Despite working in supposedly big banner films, his films, unfortunately were just not clicking. Also not helping was the fact that he mostly played second fiddle to more established stars. It was Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn in London Dreams, his debut movie. Then Akshay Kumar in Action Replay, and Hrithik Roshan in Guzaarish. Inexplicably, all these movies bombed.

This acted as a wake up call for Aditya, who realized he can’t always play safe when it came to choosing his movies. He made a bold move. He chose to play the lead in Aashiqui 2, and trust his own abilities to carry off a movie on his broad shoulders. The gamble worked. Aashiqui 2 became the flavor of the season. And Aditya Roy Kapoor became a sensation overnight.

The same critics who had written him off even before his career had begun, started singing praises for him. He suddenly became hot property overnight. Now, even the big banners wanted to work with him. Case in point- Yashraj Films. Arguably India’s most prestigious banner saw the potential in Aditya, and made an offer. A mouth watering offer. Literally.

Habib Faisal cast him as the lead for his next film, Daawat-E-Ishq, in which he plays a Lucknowi boy. The movie revolves around the dowry system, and also how in India people are absolutely crazy about their foods. Aditya’s character in the film owns a restaurant in Lucknow.
It must have been difficult for Aditya to get into the skin of a Lucknowi local, as he has mostly stayed in Mumbai in his life. But we have a feeling Aditya would still be able to pull it off convincingly.

Also, how difficult can it be to romance Parineeti Chopra! She is looking simply stunning in her role of a feisty Hyderabadi girl. And Aditya, in the trailer, looks completely besotted by her. And rightly so. Daawat-E-Ishq Movie can boast two of the most promising young actors of Bollywood, paired with each other.

And since it’s a romantic movie, the music is surely going to be good. Director Habib Faisal, who previously directed Ishaqzaade, knows the pulse of small towns. And hence his movies are grounded, and very earthy in their appeal. One look at Aditya’s Lucknowi avatar, and you’ll know what we are talking about.
How well the audience reacts to Aditya’s new turn, remains to be seen. There is certainly a lot of buzz regarding his role in the movie. But whether that buzz converts to numbers, is something that remains to be seen. The film has music by Sajid Wajid, so we can be sure of atleast one chartbuster from the album. That will certainly help the film, and Aditya.

Daawat-E-Ishq releases on 5th September.
